Glory ranks show how skilled you are in Competitive Crucible and grant Powerful Gear for each subdivision and major division you reach. If you're interested in leveling quickly or enjoy Destiny 2's PvP component, you'll want to increase both of these ranks.
Updated September 8th, , by Charles Burgar: All the ritual playlists saw a large progression overhaul in Season of the Lost. Valor, renamed "Crucible Ranks," is now somewhat slower to level than in previous seasons.
The rewards tied to Valor have also changed to account for the new Ascendancy Rocket Launcher and its Ornaments. Beyond updating Valor's new point requirements and rewards, we've also updated the Glory section of the guide to better explain how ranking up in that playlist works. Before we discuss the best ways to increase your Valor and Glory ranks, it's important to understand the progression differences between the two.
Valor ranks called "Crucible Ranks" in-game are tied to non-competitive Crucible game types such as Control, Rumble, and rotating playlists. Players can only gain Valor ranks; losses do not reduce your Valor points. Valor ranks and their point progression are listed below. Glory ranks are tied to competitive Crucible game types, which is currently only the Survival playlist.
Trials of Osiris is not in the Glory playlist. Winning these matches will grant Glory, while losing matches will reduce your Glory. If you are at Fabled, Brave, or Guardian, you cannot lose your main division rank. Once you reach Mythic, this safety net is removed, meaning you can drop from Mythic to Fabled if you repeatedly lose. Even if you aren't very good at PvP, ranking up your Valor shouldn't be as much of a slog now.
While the points needed per level are unchanged, the amount of XP you earn per win, and how it increases while on a streak, has been standardized. Now, the Glory win streak bonus will increase by 20 points per win.
This means that instead of the diminishing returns for maintaining a win streak, players will be evenly rewarded as they secure a victory. Whenever you lose a match, your Glory streak will no longer reset, instead, the streak will be reduced by 2.
This should make keeping a 5 win streak easier, as a loss will only drop you to a 3 win streak instead of resetting. Secondly, you cannot lose Glory ranks below Fabled 1.
This means if you make it to Brave 1, you will not fall back down to Guardian III if you earn consecutive losses, despite technically losing Glory. On top of this, the amount of Glory you lose takes into account your kill-death ratio and performance. The better you perform, the less Glory you will lose when you incur a loss. Finally, your Glory rank will adjust faster depending on your skill. While there are no clear numbers here, it sounds like the better you perform, the faster you will accrue Glory.
This last point makes the following table slightly incorrect. While these are still the base values for wins, the amount you lose for losses is entirely dynamic. There are reports of players losing as little as 4 points while others lose 12, 28, and even Freelance only pits solo players against each other, while the standard matchmaking queue can find pre-made fireteams.
As good as you might be at PvP, coordination is key to winning at higher rank brackets. If you don't have a clan or anyone to play Destiny 2 with, play in the Freelance playlist. Chat with any players on your team or the enemy team that's particularly good, and ask them if you can enter a squad with them. You'd be surprised how many people are open to the idea. Find a team you can play well with, and prepare for these matches to become much easier.
Some PvP players might be demoralized to hear this , but if you aren't proficient with Destiny 2's movement mechanics yet, use Stasis. This spec is dedicated to shutting down players in their tracks, effectively reversing a combat's engagement in your favor. They all have absurdly strong grenades, solid melee abilities, and powerful Supers that can stop enemies in their tracks. It's forgiving, allows you to control the battlefield, and can easily be tuned to counter the opposition.
Light-based Subclasses are still useful in Destiny 2, but the top-tier ones have a rather large skill gap when compared to Stasis.
Crucible content creators will frequently state to move and attack with "intent. You might be able to go on a killstreak by running around with a Shotgun in 6v6 Control, but that play style seldom pays off in 3v3 game types. Have a plan mapped out in your head of what's about to happen. If you rush in with a Shotgun, how will the enemy react?
Are you fast enough to shut them down? Will you be exposed? These questions become easier to answer as you play more PvP. This mostly boils down to learning Crucible's game flow, something we cover more later in this list.
