I think it is much more often used for the dog than degorative for a person. Actually it may be used as comparison "Er sieht aus wie ein Pintscher. So I should just go with a type of guarding or hunting dog I take it? Thank you, I appreciate the help. I have only ever heard the word in reference to certain dog breeds in English.
EG Affenpinscher, German pinscher. But never a proper translation of what the pinscher part of the name means. Except literal translations as "terrier" but I didn't think that sounded right Appreciate all the help!

I have seen this origin for the word before, but never with a source, was what I meant. Thanks, that is great!
