Some religious texts mention just a few archangels by name; others mention more. While religious texts usually refer to archangels as male, that may be just a default way of referring to them. Many people believe that angels don't have a specific gender and can appear to humans in any form they choose, according to what will best accomplish the purpose of each of their missions.
Some scriptures imply that there are too many angels for humans to count. Only God knows how many archangels lead the angels that he has made.
Archangels also spend time elsewhere in the spiritual realm fighting evil. Believers say that God has assigned guardian angels to protect each individual person on Earth, but he often sends archangels to accomplish earthly tasks of a larger scale. For example, the archangel Gabriel is known for his appearances delivering major messages to people throughout history.
Seven archangels supervise other angels who work in teams to help answer prayers from people according to the type of help for which they're praying. Since the angels travel through the universe using the energy of light rays to do this work, various rays represent the kinds of angelic specialties. They are:. People have given names to the archangels who have interacted with humans throughout history. Daniel had prayed for God to forgive his people and restore them to Jerusalem. An angel was dispatched to tell Daniel that his prayer had been heard, but its passage was blocked by an evil angel.
And the dragon and his angels fought back. To understand this passage, we must realize that this battle took place during the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, culminating with his ascension into heaven.
The battle between Michael and Satan might be thought of as a legal contest in the courtroom of heaven. This fits the picture in the Old Testament that we find in Job God asked Satan whether he had encountered Job Job Satan responded by accusing Job, saying that he honored God only because the Lord had so richly blessed him.
Revelation 12 states that Satan is no longer able to make these accusations. These names tell us how Satan wars against God and his people: he desires to deceive and specially to accuse us of sin in the courtroom of God. The New Testament associates the casting down of Satan with the saving work of Christ.
Luke records the return of the seventy-two evangelists whom Jesus sent out. As Jesus saw it, the news of his redeeming work removed Satan from heaven. In John , Jesus was speaking about his coming death on the cross. John, instead, is giving a snapshot of historical theology. John sees a woman give birth to a son whose birth is anticipated by a dragon. The dragon attempts to kill the child who is caught up into heaven, while the woman spends a period of time in the wilderness. The image of the woman here is the church, and the son is the king.
Satan, the enemy of God, tries to extinguish his life, but God protects him and exalts him. So one day I was at our local metaphysical bookshop here in Raleigh , and I stumbled across the oracle deck Angels of Atlantic Stewart Pearce. And I read up on and bought this deck, and started using the cards.
I really enjoyed what I got from the cards and the deck, and started learning a little bit about angels. I found her story fascinating and I really enjoyed receiving an angel reading from her. I see Jesus as an ascended master, not as a son of god and, you know, someone to worship separately. I see him more as an ascended master because I always believed in his message, I just did not believe in all of the other stuff around it. So I kept getting these messages about Archangels and that I needed to find out who my Archangels are.
Slowly, I started to receive messages and information while giving readings through the Archangels. And I really want to have a personal relationship with them. So I went on this crazy journey to find out all about the Archangels. I went and bought every book known to man on the Archangel starting with Doreen Virtue and sort of moved on from there. In addition, I did a lot of books with Edgar Cayce. And so that led me to look into different seminars and things on Archangels. I went to a seminar about a year ago and it was supposed to be for advanced meditators, people who were into the spiritual realm and I was like Yeah!
This sounds so great. This is really going to give me a personal experience. And, while the seminar was great, I left there having learned nothing. It was all the information I already knew and still not having the personal experience.
I woke in the middle of the night as is typical with my dream team wakes me up often! And I had to leave my bed, go downstairs to a laptop and sit down and I wrote an outline for the message, which basically was write the seminar you wish to attend. And that became a book which is called The Archangel Experiment. I want to have my own experience, develop my own relationship — I love small groups and one on one.
So I started exploring my personal relationships with the Archangels. One of the ways I like to connect with them on a daily basis is through my Kyle Gray Angel Prayers deck. So the card itself says: Thank you Chamuel for removing the barriers around my heart.
The Archangel of Peace. And I know this is a personal message for me. This is something I have been working on the last couple of weeks in my meditations is just opening my heart. Making my heart as large as the planet, and larger than the planet, and you know, how can I be of service, and keep my heart open even though challenges — challenging experiences with others — just keeping that heart open. Joseph and St. Michael the Archangel, recognising once again his role as defender of the Faith and of the Church.
His skills as a judger of souls have also made him the patron of all trades that involve the use of assessments, such as traders, pharmacists, pastry chefs. He is also patron saint of the Police. Even the Archangel Gabriel, like Michael and Raphael, has a festival day- which is celebrated on September 29th. In the Bible, he is also presented as an angel of death, while for the Muslims he is one of the chief Messengers of God and the angel who revealed the Koran to Muhammad.
He revealed the future birth of John the Baptist to Zechariah, he appeared in a dream to Joseph to make him desist from repudiating Mary, because her pregnancy was the work of the Holy Spirit, and, naturally, because she was the bearer of a miraculous conception and of the birth of Jesus. In this case, more than in any other, he consecrated himself as being the messenger of God. It was Gabriel who appeared to Mary and told her that God had chosen her as the mother for His only Son.
No imposition, no obligation. Only a request, addressed by one of the most powerful angels to a simple and humble girl. The role of Gabriel was therefore pivotal. Some interpretations have sought to see him as the angel who will blow the horn announcing the Day of Judgment, according to the Apocalypse of John.
Gabriel is considered to be the protector of those who work in communications, postmen, ambassadors, journalists and couriers. Christian iconography depicts him as a young winged cherub , who often carries a lily in his hands, as a symbol of the Annunciation to Mary. Raphael is the Archangel whose mission is to bring healing.
